So I realize that this aricle was from 2 years ago but I just found it recently. I have known that there will be a movie called Gospel According to Janis about--who else?--Janis Joplin for a while now. However, I had no idea about this:
Deschanel Beats Spears and Lohan to Joplin Role
17 August 2006 | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news
Zooey Deschanel has beaten Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears and Scarlett Johansson to the coveted role of Janis Joplin in the forthcoming movie biopic of the tragic singer. Pop punk Pink was originally director Penelope Spheeris' first choice to play the late rocker, but pulled out, blaming the movie's producers for turning the casting process into "some circus pop contest - who's the 'it' girl who wants to play Janis." However, Almost Famous beauty Deschanel, 26, has signed to play Joplin in The Gospel According To Janis, which starts filming in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in November. "Piece Of My Heart" hitmaker Joplin died of an heroin and alcohol overdose in a Hollywood hotel room in October 1970 at the age of 27.
What Janis fan in their right mind, would see a film about her portrayed by either Lindsay Lohan or Britney Spears? Now I don't know about Johansson, she doesn't seem like she could pull it off well either. Now when they had originally cast Pink to play Joplin I thought that maybe the movie would turn out alright. With Deschanel, I do like her, but I am only familiar with her work in Elf and Almost Famous. I know she can act and sing so hopefully she can give a great performance. While her voice is very different from Joplin's I hear she is working with a vocal coach so here's hoping for the best.
WANTED (starring James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman, Angelina Jolie); as in 'I've "wanted" to see this movie for a long time.'
James McAvoy always delivers, in my opinion, so I'm hoping he doesn't disappoint me now. Sorry Wall-E but this is where my money's going...you're probably going to win the box office anyway so, whatever.
ooh and here's some more trailers for some of the movies on my 'to see' list.
Burn After Reading
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
So I watched the new The Incredible Hulk this past weekend and was pleasantly surprised. It turned out better than I expected. I love Edward Norton but I was wondering if he would pull off Banner well and I think he did. I guess after my post about Iron Man and now this one, you guys can probably tell I'm a superhero comic book fan. My cousin and maybe some friends of mine are thinking about going to Comic Con this year while we're near the area. What do you guys think?
Anyway, I've been pondering about the possible movies I will be going to watch in the future. So without further ado...
Here's my "to see" list --
The Fall: Heard from reliable sources that this one is pretty good. Hoping to see it before it stops playing in theaters. Hoping to convince my friends to go watch it with me (a feat which I know will be difficult to do). If not, a-renting we will go!
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button: Haven't read the book, but I probably should before the movie comes out. It's Fitzgerald so I'm expecting big things. I am also expecting big things from the film after watching the trailer. Stars Brad Pitt. And BONUS! -- stars Cate Blanchett.
Burn After Reading: So, I know what you're thinking...Brad Pitt again? But it's the Coen Brothers! And Frances McDormand! This is a different take following the very serious No Country for Old Men. I'm expecting to be laughing the entire way through. The whole, can't-really-breathe-and-can't-stop kind o
The Dark Knight: I've seen the trailer and I feel like Heath Ledger is going to be astounding in the movie. I think I will probably enjoy his version of the Joker. While I haven't always been a fan of Ledger, I respected him as an actor. I hope he did well with this role and hopefully gets some recognition for it.
The Rocker: So this might be a wild card but I just love Rainn Wilson and will give this film the benefit of the doubt. Unlike Juno, Wilson gets more than a few minutes of screen time so I'm hoping for big laughs. I mean, it's something to do while I wait for the new season of "The Office" right?
Pineapple Express: It's like the movie version of "Freaks and Geeks." Sans the geeks...and three freaks. So yeah, I'm there.
Tropic Thunder: I surprisingly like all three of these actors. And Downey playing a white guy playing a black guy? Must see that. The plot does sound somewhat promising too. May not make a lot of money but I'll go and pay the $8 or so to give my support.
Revolutionary Road: So wow, I don't think anyone was really expecting this? Kate and Leo getting back together? I personally enjoy period pieces, this one is set in the 50's, so I'm looking forward to this movie. Here's hoping DiCaprio delivers, without Scorsese this time.
Wanted: This one's just for McAvoy. While the trailer shows some awesome action scenes (I was especially impressed when he was swept into the moving car by Jolie) I don't know how the film will be overall. I hope it's good.
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince: While I'm not particularly excited for the next Harry Potter installment to grace the big screen, I figured I might as well add it to the list because I might as well finish it off right? There's only one more--wait two more--after this one so... I will be amazed if I leave the theater with positive reviews after the last movie.
So that's it for now I guess. Feel free to make any comments if you'd like. Oh and if you have any suggestions you can go ahead and share them as well. Alright, it's kind of late now so cheerio mates.

After years of waiting for this day to come, I must admit I feel very liberated but still completely trapped at the same time. I have overcome years of sleepless nights and fried brain cells, but I realize that that was only the half of it. Now it's time to move on, and yet I have no idea where to move on to.
I was asked again today, "so what do you think you wanna be in the future?"
I want to be left alone.
I want to be able to ask myself the same question.
I want to be someone who shows her answer instead of merely stating it.
I want to be able to prove everyone, with their doubts, wrong.
I want to be happy.
I just want to be careless enough to follow my dreams.
"So what do you think you wanna be in the future?"
Let's see how things play out; we can talk in the future.

Over the past week I have thought of nothing else but 1) the coming summer (because let's face it, who cant wait to get out school?) and 2) wanting to learn how to snowboard. The latter seems to be bordering an obsession. It has become one of my dreams/aspirations. I truly hope that I will one day get out there and learn this sport. But, of course, there are a few obstacles standing in my way. I don't live in a place where it snows (but will be in california soon so maybe during the winter i can head up to mammoth) so that's a problem. I also realize that it is costly, as is everything else in this material world (boots, bindings, snowboard, helmet, goggles, winter wear = $$$). So...we'll see what happens.
On another note, I recently watched the superhero flick Iron Man which by far is one of the best superhero movies I've seen since Spiderman 2 (which is saying something because very much enjoyed Spiderman 2). If anyone does read this, please, go watch it! It is awesome (especially Downey who gives a wicked performance as Tony Stark). Here's hoping they don't screw up the sequel and anything following that. Hear that Favreau? Do not follow in Sam Raimi's footsteps; please do not give us another Spiderman 3 to which I was sorely disappointed.
So those were my thoughts for today...and now I should be getting back to work. Stupid, stupid work.
Update on Barney: Only 2 slaps remaining. When will Marshall strike next?
I can't decide what I want to be, but that's normal right? My friends want to be doctors, architects, engineers. What about me? What about me?
When I was in third grade I think we had some kind of career day. I hated it. My teacher had talked with each of us individually and asked us what we wanted to be when we grew up. A firefighter? A doctor? A lawyer? What was my answer? I said I wanted to be an artist (even though at the time I really had no idea...I just realized that I had to say something). Even then, I knew that I couldn't decide. I couldn't decide, at the age of seven, what I wanted to be. *Wow, how unbelievable is that? A seven year old who can multiply, quite well I might add, but can't determine what she wants to be when she grows up?* So now, fast forward ten years and you'll find that same girl, still with absolutely no clue about the future. I'm not a freakin' psychic. I'm not a fortune teller. I'm not God. "What's your major? What do you want to do with your life?" they ask. "I have no 'effin clue," I say.
----------------------------------------
"So, where are you going?" they ask. "Um, I don't know yet," I respond.
"But which ones have you narrowed it down to?"
"X, Y, and Z."
"Oh! You should go to X because it's soooooo much better than Y and Z. Go there. Go there!"
I've only realized now how controlling people can be. And not to be stereotypical, but I do think Asian parents care way to much about prestige. College should be my choice, and no one else's. They're not studying there, I am. But somehow I feel guilty when I tell them I don't want to go to _______. I'm not supposed to feel guilty, am I? Try as I might I can't escape; the pillow just comes down harder, and I can't breathe.

Why oh why must you sneak up on me so unceremoniously? When I left school on Friday, at 7 p.m. might I add, I was refreshingly rejuvenated...I might as well have been singing choruses of "Hallelujah's" at the top of my lungs. I reveled in the extra hours of sleep I got because I had to play catch up on the 4 hours I normally get during the weekdays. Then all of a sudden it is
P.S., to my school: I would one day want to sue you for all the sleep deprivation and stress you have caused me over the years. Is that possible? I hope so. My future lawyer will get back to you.
Oh, and I hate you too.
With deep malice,
"Girl who hates you"

I'm graduating soon, that's a big deal right? Shouldn't it be considered my day? I know I'm being selfish but I don't care about the some other hundred people in my class...I refuse to have them take over THE day I have been waiting for, for the past twelve years. I do not want our graduation song to be some theme from a Jessica Alba movie ( I think it's called Honey). My friends and I were enraged! I mean come on. They didn't even consider our suggestions...Don't Stop Me Now--[Queen], We Go Together--[from Grease]...
*Sigh* Why do I have to be in a class of people who don't understand me? Oy vey.

Wow, like wow...when I first thought of signing up for livejournal I really thought I had more to say. But now? Nothing, zip, nada...my mind is a blank. So for the purposes of actually using this site, because I did sign up for one after all, I will share a list. Just to let you know (before you sit there and ask yourself, "What the heck?") I love lists. I made this list a couple months ago when I while I was bored...and procrastinating like I always do. So without further ado...da-da-da-da-DA!:
The List of Things I Hate
- Getting up early --- only crazy people start their day at 5 in the morning.
- Salesclerks who bother you when you don't want to be bothered.
- Salesclerks who don't bother you when you need to be bothered.
- School (pretty much self-explanatory)
- People who walk really slow in front of you and take up the entire walkway at the same time.
- Waiters/waitresses who ask "Oh, is Pepsi okay?" if you ask them for a coke. Well, since you asked, no, it's not okay. I asked for a coke so go get me a coke.
- People who ask stupid questions. And yes, there is such a thing as a stupid question.
- Telemarketers.
- Hosts that ask if I would like a children's menu. I'm not four, thank you very much...but thanks for the crayons.
- Voice automated messages (or whatever they're called) that take forever to connect you to an ACTUAL person.
- Bad grammar because it annoys me to no end.
- People who tell really really bad jokes and then laugh really really hard at them.
- People who think wearing Crocs is cool. Little kids are okay though, at least they can pull it off.
- Compare and Contrast (what my mother does).
- Bugs.
- People who are too bubbly. Seriously, I don't want them ruining my bad mood.
- Cats. Ew, cats.
- Everyone who reads a book just because it's part of Oprah's Book Club. Come on guys, books existed long before Oprah came along.
- College Applications.
- Rap/Hip-hop music.
- People who assume I'm either Chinese or Japanese. *I'm Irish, geez get it straight.
- Smokers. Gosh, could you like kill yourselves over there? You're stealing my air. Thanks.
- Frickin FAFSA and CSS Profile
- Running...what's the point?
* I'm not Irish, if you didn't catch on to the sarcasm in italics thing.
I will probably add to this list later as I go along. But hey, if anyone else would like to share their hate list go bananas. I would love to know what bothers people the most.
